>> Product Introduce
Dodecyl (Lauryl) Dimethyl Betaine (BS-12, CAS 683-10-3) is a high-performance zwitterionic (amphoteric) surfactant, produced by the quaternization of lauryl dimethylamine with sodium chloroacetate. It is supplied as a colorless to pale yellow, clear viscous liquid (standard grade 30 % active matter), readily soluble in water and stable over a wide pH range.
The molecule carries both a quaternary ammonium cation and a carboxylate anion, which gives it a pH-responsive character: it behaves cationically in acidic media and anionically in alkaline media, so it stays effective from mildly acidic through alkaline formulations. Key benefits include excellent foaming and foam stabilization, a pronounced thickening response in combination with anionic surfactants, hard-water tolerance, low skin and eye irritation, and ready biodegradability. It is compatible with anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactants, and shows good stability in both acidic and alkaline systems, making it suitable for mild, high-foam and high-electrolyte formulations alike.
>> Main Uses
Personal care products: a core ingredient in shampoo, body wash, facial cleanser, hand soap and baby care products. Acting as foam booster and viscosity builder, it reduces the irritation potential of primary anionic surfactants such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), while improving foam quality, foam stability and after-feel.
Detergents: dishwashing liquids, household and industrial & institutional cleaners, and mild laundry formulations such as baby-clothing detergents, where low irritation, good lime-soap dispersancy and hard-water tolerance are required.
Oilfield chemicals: bactericide against sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and saprophytic bacteria in injection and produced water systems; corrosion inhibitor for pipelines and downhole equipment; and wetting agent for acidizing and drilling fluids.
Textile & leather: softener, antistatic agent and leveling agent for dyeing and printing.
Other fields: emulsifier for rubber latex and emulsion polymerization; antistatic agent for plastics and fibers; wetting and penetrating agent in agrochemical formulations; and metal cleaning with corrosion protection.
