Octadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (OTAB), also known as stearyl trimethyl ammonium bromide, n-octadecyltrimethylammonium bromide, and octadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (spaced form), is a cationic quaternary ammonium salt surfactant with CAS number 1120-02-1. Its long C18 alkyl chain imparts strong hydrophobicity and excellent emulsifying properties, making it widely used in textile softening, personal care formulations, and organic synthesis.
