Product Description

Dihexadecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DHDMAC; INCI: Dicetyldimonium Chloride) is a di-long-chain quaternary ammonium compound — two C16 alkyl chains on a single quaternary nitrogen. The twin tails drive strong adsorption onto negatively charged surfaces such as fibers, hair, clay platelets and metal, forming a durable hydrophobic monolayer. This is what delivers its softening, antistatic and organoclay-intercalation performance. Because the two chains also limit penetration into microbial membranes, its antimicrobial activity is moderate: it is best used as a surface antimicrobial modifier or preservative booster alongside a primary biocide, not as a stand-alone disinfectant. Supplied as a white to pale yellow waxy solid / flake (or 70 % active paste in isopropanol–water). Dispersible in hot water, soluble in polar organic solvents. Not compatible with anionic surfactants or anionic dyes.

Fabric softening & antistatic — durable softness and static control on cotton, wool and blends; low yellowing.
Hair conditioning — INCI Dicetyldimonium Chloride; wet-combing, smooth texture, low build-up.
Organoclay / bentonite modification — intercalation to produce rheology additives for paints, inks, greases and drilling fluids.
Mineral flotation — reverse flotation of quartz and silicates; iron ore and industrial mineral beneficiation.
Asphalt emulsification — cationic slow-setting emulsifier.
Corrosion inhibition & lubricity — acid-system inhibitor and lubricity additive in metalworking fluids.
Antimicrobial surface modification — preservative booster and surface treatment; pair with a primary biocide for full disinfection.
